Middle School Awarded $5,000 Lowe's Grant for Outdoor Life Science Classroom

Mineola Middle School has received a $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant for an outdoor science education center.  The grant application was based on the goal of improving the learning community on the Middle School and Primary School campuses.

The grant was submitted by 7th grade science teacher, Susan Witt, who stated, “We look forward to sharing the education center with the Primary School campus as both grade levels work together on hands-on science activities and experiments through collaborative lessons.”

The LOWE’s grant will complete phase 2 of the outdoor science center by funding the construction of a chicken coop and an aquaponics farming system.  These structures will complement our already existing greenhouse, funded by the Mineola Education Foundation and constructed in 2018. The project will be completed and operational by Spring, 2019.

“Our students from grades K-8 will greatly benefit from this outdoor life science classroom. We wish to thank our friends at Lowe’s for generously supporting this important project,” said Kendall Gould, Principal.
