Marching Band Wins State Championship in UIL 3A Competition!

On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, the Mineola High School Marching Band made history when they won the Gold Medal and became the 2017 State UIL Marching Band Contest Conference 3A Champions. The State Competition was held in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas and Mineola High School was one of 20 bands from across the state who earned the honor to compete for the title.IMG_9841.JPG

Prior to winning the title of 2017 State Champs, the MHS “Sound of the Swarm” earned a bronze medal in their historic first trip to the state marching band contest in 2015.  The band had set a goal in August this year to return to the state competition and win the gold medal.

Mineola High School advanced to finals following their preliminary performance and was able to beat the reigning four year Whitesboro High School Band to earn the top spot.  Nine other bands advanced to finals from the 20 schools who qualified for the State competition this year.

The Mineola Marching Band is under the direction of Band Director, Chris Brannan (left center) and his assistants Jennifer Turner, Dago Gonzalez, and JIm Best.  The MISD band program has continued to grow over the past few years with 105 members marching this school year, an increase of over 25 from the last competition in 2015.
