Friday, February 14 is a Professional Development day across the District with many student led conferences taking place. We are thankful for this time to spend with our student's families and reviewing their academic progress.
There are many reasons why Mineola ISD is a great place to teach. One of those reasons is the plan that Mineola ISD has adopted to offer the Teacher Incentive Allotment to teachers throughout the District. The Teacher Incentive Allotment rewards high-performing teachers who demonstrate excellence during their formal observation with their Campus Principal and improve students' academic performance with financial bonuses.
Currently, 54 teachers at Mineola ISD receive designations as part of this program. Designations range in award from $4,296 to $16,516 and are awarded each year for five years on top of their current salary. To date, Mineola ISD has paid out over $475,000 in bonuses to outstanding teachers!

The deadline to submit applications for the May 2025 Board Election is Friday, February 14th at 5:00 p.m. in the Mineola ISD Administration Office. There are 3 full-term positions on the ballot this election cycle.

Update 1:32 p.m.
Mineola High School was placed on "Lockdown" at approximately 12:20 p.m. due to what sounded like gunshots being fired in the neighborhood of the Mineola ISD Transportation and Maintenance Building. These sounds were heard by a Mineola ISD Maintenance Employee and a nearby Mineola Police Department Officer. All other Campuses in the District were placed on "Secure", while the Mineola Police Department investigated the incident.
The investigation concluded that a vehicle backfiring several times throughout the neighborhood triggered the incident. We appreciate the prompt response of the Mineola Police Department, Mineola ISD Police Department, Faculty, Staff, and Students who responded so quickly to this incident.
This afternoon, a debrief will occur with our students, Faculty, and Staff at the High School, and an After Action Review will be conducted by all of those responding to this incident tomorrow morning to better understand what we can learn from this and respond even better in case of a real-world incident. Mineola High School was temporarily placed on a Lockdown due to an off campus incident being investigated by the Mineola Police Department. All other Campuses were placed on Secure. The all clear has now been given and we are safe to resume the day.

Due to the heavy rain and storms moving through the Mineola area, the food distribution sponsored by the East Texas Food Bank at Meredith Memorial Stadium has been canceled today. Normal operations will resume next month.
Mineola ISD Adult English Program
Mineola ISD will offer a class for non-English speaking or limited English speaking
adults. This class will provide basic instruction in reading, writing, vocabulary
development, pronunciation and communication skills for daily living.

January 27th - January 31st is Holocaust Remembrance Week across the state of Texas.
Please join Mineola ISD in praying for the family and friends of Mrs. Vickie Petersen. Mrs. Petersen passed away on the morning of Wednesday, January 15th. She had served the students and staff of Mineola ISD for almost 30 years in a variety of roles, from Middle School librarian to her most recent assignment as an instructor in DAEP. She loved helping kids and she was extremely dedicated to her job at Mineola ISD.
Mrs. Petersen's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 25th at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Quitman, Texas with burial to follow at Kelsey Cemetery. The Mineola ISD Board of Trustees has three positions that will be elected for in the May 2025 Election. Those who are interested in filing for the election may complete an application packet from January 15th, 2025, to February 14th, 2025. These applications can be picked up and returned to the Mineola ISD Administration Building. The May Election will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025.
The Mineola ISD District Improvement Committee will meet on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in the Mineola ISD Administration Building. This meeting is open to the public and will cover various academic topics. We hope to see you in attendance.
