Mineola ISD will have our second District Improvement Plan Formative Review on Tuesday, February 10th at 4:15 p.m. The meeting will be at the MISD Administration building, 1695 West Loop 564.

Did you know that January 26-30, 2026, marks the 7th Annual Holocaust Remembrance Week in Texas public schools? The purpose of this week is to combat and confront hatred, prejudice, and indifference by educating all Texans about the Holocaust and other genocides in an effort to dismantle antisemitism and prevent such future atrocities.

Mineola ISD stands strong with Districts across the state in our commitment to teach students the history of the Holocaust, so that history never repeats itself on their watch.

The Varsity Girls will be taking on the Eustace Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. this afternoon in Eustace, directly followed by the Varsity Boys. Varsity Soccer will play tomorrow night (Thursday) at Home against Cumberland Academy.

I have just returned to the office after driving the roads across portions of the District. While Farm to Market roads have improved, many County Roads remain in poor condition. As a result, school will be cancelled tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28, 2026. We plan to resume normal schedule on Thursday. Good afternoon, Due to ongoing snowfall across the district and forecasted temperatures remaining below freezing through Monday, road conditions are expected to remain hazardous, particularly on shaded Farm-to-Market roads and County Roads. Bridges and overpasses will continue to pose significant travel risks throughout Tuesday. In the interest of student and staff safety, and with the student well-being as our highest priority, Mineola ISD will cancel classes on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Good evening, Overnight, an additional round of wintry precipitation is expected to move across East Texas, causing road conditions to continue deteriorating. Temperatures will remain cold and are forecasted to drop further, which will create hazardous travel conditions- particularly on county roads, bridges, and overpasses. In the interest of community safety and with student well-being as our top priority, Mineola ISD will cancel classes on Monday, January 26, 2026. We extend our sincere appreciation to Eloise Sparkman (Class of 2040) for assisting her mother, Zoe Sparkman (Class of 2013), in preparing the graphic for our announcement. Last night, the Mineola ISD Board of Trustees, with the recommendation of Superintendent Cody Mize, approved hiring Mr. Donald Myers as the Director of Bands and Fine Arts at Mineola ISD. Mr. Myers joined the Band Staff in 2023 and has been an integral part of the Sound of the Swarm's success. "Mr. Myers is the right fit to continue the legacy of the Sound of the Swarm and lead our program going forward," stated Mr. Mize.

A Winter Storm Warning was issued this afternoon for all of Wood County and a large portion of Northeast Texas. The District will closely monitor this storm system throughout the day on Friday and over the weekend. Friday should be a typical day in the District, and we don't anticipate any early release.

Basketball schedules have been amended: the JV Boys and Girls games have been cancelled, and the Varsity Boys play Winona at home starting at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Varsity Girls at 7:00 p.m. All activities in the District on Saturday have been cancelled.

Over the weekend, parents and students will have access to the Livestock Barn for those needing to check on their animals. Please make sure that you have already taken extra precautions if your show project is housed in a District facility, with the cold temperatures coming up this weekend.

Finally, please have a plan for Monday and Tuesday in case conditions worsen over the weekend. The District really tries to give everyone plenty of notice when deciding to close school due to road conditions. Please make sure you have the Mineola ISD Mobile Application downloaded and that you are following all of our social media pages and the District Website for the latest information.

Good afternoon, everyone!

This evening is a good time to make sure all your phone numbers and email addresses are up to date in Skyward, and to download the Mineola ISD Mobile Application to receive future notifications. District officials will meet tomorrow to discuss the upcoming JV and Varsity Basketball Games scheduled for Friday. The soccer match vs. Cumberland Academy, scheduled for Friday, has already been moved to Thursday night at Meredith Memorial Stadium at 6:00 p.m.

A big shoutout to the dedicated team at the Mineola ISD Police Department and our Guardians for putting in the work on MLK Day. Your commitment to keeping our schools safe doesn't go unnoticed. Communication between outside law enforcement and those actively on the scene must be trained!

The Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) for the Mineola Independent School District will hold a Public Meeting on January 29, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM through 1:30 PM at the Mineola ISD Administration building.

Mineola ISD would like to thank Coach Luke Blackwell for his 18 years of dedicated service to Mineola Athletics and the countless students he has impacted throughout his career. Coach Blackwell played an integral role in one of the most historic moments in Mineola ISD athletic history, serving as the Defensive Coordinator for the 2016 State Championship Football Team. During his tenure as Head Football Coach, he led the program with integrity and commitment, completing his head coaching career with a record of 44 wins and 34 losses.

We are grateful for Coach Blackwell’s leadership, dedication, and service to our athletic programs and student-athletes. As he transitions into his new role as Dean of Students at Mineola Primary School, we look forward to his continued impact on students and families across the District.

The position of Athletic Director/Head Football Coach will be posted on Monday, January 12th, 2026. The District will conduct a statewide search for the next leader of Mineola ISD Athletics.
