Good afternoon everyone,
On Thursday, March 30th, a report was made to the Middle School Administration Office concerning a broad threat made on a church van the previous evening regarding possible harm to the Middle School Campus. As required by law, a Behavioral Threat Assessment was conducted to investigate the student and these comments. The student was searched and no firearms, magazines, or other harmful objects were found. The campus was never placed on lockdown during the day or in any other emergency status. The incident continued to be under investigation through the end of the day.
During the early morning hours of Friday, March 31st, a concerned parent made a report to the Mineola Police Department concerning a threat made to their child. The student in question remained at home at the request of the Middle School Administration. The student was never on campus at any point during the day of Friday, March 31st.
At 11:40 a.m. on Friday, March 31st, the Mineola ISD Police Department executed a search warrant to detain a juvenile suspect for threats of violence. This suspect has been turned over to the Wood County Juvenile Justice System.
I do want to add a couple of thoughts concerning this incident today that can hopefully give everyone a better understanding of school safety issues in general.
1.) During a situation like this, factual information is critical. There were many things shared on social media today that were absolutely incorrect and added to panic and fear.
2.) School safety is the most important thing that we do prior to educating children at Mineola ISD. We are very fortunate to have our very own Mineola ISD Police Department with three officers in the Department. We also have a highly trained team of individuals that carry firearms on our campus. When the campuses are closed and everyone else is at home, this team is training. They love your/our kids so much that they willingly stepped forward to take on this assignment. You will never know who they are, but they are there, quietly protecting our kids, faculty, staff, and parents on the campuses and at school events throughout the District.
In conclusion, I want to personally thank our parents very much. I woke up this morning to a text message and a Facebook message that was sent at 3:35 a.m. this morning making me aware of this issue overnight. It was because of you that we were able to address it as quickly as possible this morning.
Finally, if you have any questions or concerns I would be glad to visit with you face-to-face to discuss this incident or school safety in general. We are always trying to find ways to continue to improve.
Have a great weekend and THANK YOU for your support.
My best always,
Cody Mize
Superintendent of Schools

Good morning everyone,
At approximately 7:15 a.m., a Mineola ISD school bus transporting 12 students was involved in an accident with another vehicle on Loop 564 north of the Primary and Middle School Campuses. Six students were transported to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries and six students were treated and released on the scene. The bus driver and driver of the other vehicle involved were both transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries as well. We are very thankful for the Mineola ISD Police Department, Mineola Police Department, Mineola Volunteer Fire Department, Wood County Sherrif's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and EMT's from both UT Health and Christus for all of their help this morning. We would also like to thank all of those that stopped to provide aid and comfort for our students from nearby neighbors, other travelers, and several of our faculty and staff.
Please join us in praying for the students and drivers involved.
